Databricks Bucharest User Group is back for its third edition on September 30, and mindit.io is sponsoring the meetup. The format stays the same: practitioners from Romanian organizations sharing what they actually did with Databricks, not vendor pitches.

Migrating the biggest EDW in CEE to Databricks
The headline session comes from Alexandru Antonescu, Executive Director of Data, Analytics & AI at BCR, and Alexandru Puiu, CTO at mindit.io. They’ll walk through migrating what they describe as the biggest enterprise data warehouse in Central and Eastern Europe onto Databricks.
This isn’t a lift-and-shift story. Moving a legacy EDW of that size means rethinking how data pipelines, governance, and reporting work together on a new platform, while a bank keeps running. The talk covers two problems that tend to show up together as a Databricks deployment grows: keeping compute costs under control and keeping AI workloads transparent and auditable.
Cost optimization and governance are often treated as separate conversations. This one puts them side by side, which is closer to how the problem actually shows up for teams running Databricks at scale.

Michael Reisinger, Digital Trading Manager at OMV Petrom, opens the technical program together with Andrei-Cosmin Ciocan, Data Engineering & AI Technical Lead at OMV Petrom, with a look at how the company uses Databricks for AI-powered energy trading, covering how data and AI feed into decisions that used to run on gut feel and spreadsheets.
