helping enterprises become AI-native organizations

mindit chats with Eduard Sorescu: “The hype behind mindit.io is real! Visit any of our offices and you’ll see”

Ionut Vacariu couldn’t wait another second and wanted us to dive even deeper inside the mind of Edi Sorescu. And boy, oh boy, was he right to be excited.

Ready, steady, let’s go!
I would start with how I got here because this is how my mindit.io journey begins. One day, a friend reached out and asked me if I know AWS and if I would be interested in joining mindit.io.

I wasn’t familiar with the name back then, but I was already thinking about taking on a new challenge in my career. That’s how I got to talk with Lucia Stoicescu (mindit.io CEO), and I came by the Bucharest office for an interview.

Seeing what the offices looked like was a real shock. They were more like a cozy home, rather than an office building. I got the chance to sense the mindit.io vibe and atmosphere right from the epicenter of it all and I was immediately hooked.

From this moment to becoming the new guy on the team, it was just a matter of time. What’s so different here as opposed to other workplaces is the flat organization model mindit.io is structured on.

I was coming here after 7-8 years of working in a corporation, so the shock was pretty big. The transparency in terms of how people discuss here is unbelievable and you are always listened to. Your opinion actually matters.

People take feedback into account and you’ll see that they will work on finding the best possible solutions for everyone. That’s truly unique about mindit.io!
I’ve been a part of mindit.io for about 3 years and a half now, and I feel like I evolved a lot. I had the opportunity to work with a lot of new technologies I wasn’t familiar with until coming here, and I was given the time and space to learn at my own pace.

Nobody expected me to be an expert in everything, and I received all the necessary support from my team, whenever I needed help with some issues specific to one technology or another.

You can learn a lot, no matter the company you work for, but here, at mindit.io, the collaboration between colleagues and teams is really amazing. That’s how we get better every day, by helping each other out and growing professionally, and personally, together.
I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical at the beginning, but it didn’t take me too long to realize that I made the best possible decision coming here.

A lot of people who work in corporations are afraid to take the risk of changing companies. However, I weighed in the pros and the cons, and based on my professional experience, I decided that joining mindit.io was the right move.

And I haven’t looked back since.
I like to start my days early in the morning, with a nice hot cup of coffee. I read my emails, make a work plan for the day, and then we have a daily call with our team to see what we have to do. After that, I’m ready for action!

I prefer working on a single project per day, and not shifting between them. I like getting into a certain mindset and getting into a workflow for a specific project. That’s how I feel I’m the most productive.

I always leave room for emergency situations that always pop up, and this way, I can handle anything that may appear out of the blue.
The DevOps team is structured around very skilled individuals. I think we have complementary skills which make us really efficient in tackling any challenge that we may have.

We work well together, and you know whom to reach out to whenever you need guidance for certain issues that is more into a colleague’s area of expertise, rather than your own.

You can’t know it all, and that specifically applies to DevOps, which is such a complex field.
Firstly, I would start out by mentioning minditNomad. It’s cool to have the option of working from anywhere in the world, or from any of the minditNomad homes we have in Cluj, Iasi, Sibiu, Comarnic, Constanta, or Bucharest.

I also enjoy all the extra fun activities we do at the office, or outside the office. Having the option of going to conferences in Romania and outside the country, where you can learn a lot of new things and meet cool people is also something I enjoy in terms of benefits.

But if I were to wrap it all up, I would say that our biggest and most important benefit is the mindit.io culture. This encapsulates everything.
Honestly, ever since I was little, I wanted to be “an IT guy.” I received a 486 computer when I was in 3rd grade, and I was completely fascinated by it. I only had 2 other friends that had computers and that’s what I did all day.

Perhaps, in an alternative universe, I would be interested in designing and making furniture. I even tried my hand at it with small, tiny projects. Nothing fancy.

But as I said, IT and computers have always been my passion. It was love at first sight. And the romance continues to this day.
First, I would tell them to come because they will not regret it. Trust that what you see is real. Maybe from the outside, it may seem like it’s too good to be true, but from the inside, you’ll see exactly what I mean.

The mindit.io hype is real.

Check out our OPEN ROLES, come by the office, and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
I like history, war, and conspiracy books. I’m not that much into fiction. I like reading about real historic events that are well-documented. Especially if we’re talking about lesser-known events.

History is one of my passions and I can’t get enough of it, whenever I have the time to sit down and read a book, an article, or watch a historic documentary.
Although I was expecting this question, I still didn’t think about whom to tag next. Was Eugen Banculescu tagged? No? Awesome! Then I’ll tag Eugen because I think he’ll have some pretty cool answers and interesting points of view regarding the questions.

Eugen, buddy, TAG – you’re it!
