How I enjoy the Swiss scenery – mindit.io people sharing their stories

Living in Switzerland is like a dream to many people, myself included. I’ve been living in Basel, located in the country’s German-speaking region, right at the border with Germany. Since I moved here in February and after I’ve got used to living in a country other than my own, I’ve been traveling as often as I could.

Even as I write this article, it’s Sunday, 19.06.2022, 09:10 in the morning, and I am on a train heading to Bern. From Bern, I’ll change the platform to catch a train to Lausanne and Vevey. This is how I always travel, by train. I primarily work from home, but I still need to meet with my colleagues regularly in Olten and Zurich.

I guess that’s just one of the many perks of being able to work from anywhere, while being part of such an amazing team of people. That’s what mindit.io has to offer, plus a lot of other cool perks.

For this reason, I have a General Access Pass for SBB (Federal Swiss Railways), and I try to use it as often as possible. This gives me access to almost every train in Switzerland, buses, trams in the cities, and a couple of boats.

In the past months, I’ve visited a couple of cities, and I’ll leave below some photos and impressions of each place.
I have to start with the city that I am living in, Basel. But given that I could work from anywhere in the world, or even from one of the minditNomad homes provided by mindit.io in Romania, in cities like Bucharest, Cluj, Sibiu, Iasi, Constanta, or Comarnic.
I chose Basel, as my new home. It’s a wonderful city located in the northern part of Switzerland. The Rhine which flows through it gives a beautiful scenery. Along the banks are designated places to chill and enjoy an Aperol Spritz. On the hot summer days, the most fun activity is to float down the river, go out and walk back upstream to go with the flow again. The water is crystal clear and warm enough.
Being a minditNomad I get to travel from city to city, without having to make too many plans in advance. So my next stop was Bern.
In Bern, I only stayed for a couple of hours while waiting for a train to Luzern. The capital city of Switzerland is uniquely attractive. On my short trip there, I only managed to see the town center, so I have to go back and enjoy all it has to offer.
This is by far my favorite city in Switzerland up until this point. The buildings, the lake, and the Alps that are visible standing near the lake offer a breathtaking and inspirational panorama. I’ve already visited this city three times during winter, spring, and summer. I took a boat to Vitznau from Luzern during snowfall to go up on Rigi Kulm with a funicular.
Lugano is located in the south, at the border with Italy, in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. Since I mostly make only day trips, I have to go back and see what this city has left to offer.
On my short trip, I walked a bit from the train station down to the shores of Lake Lugano, from where I took a boat around the lake. Since it was early spring, the scenery wasn’t entirely out of winter. The boat trip lasted two and a half hours, but it was worth it. I got to see one of the most beautiful villages in Switzerland, Morcote.
Lausanne, located on the shores of Lac Leman, is a spectacular city. I went there on two separate occasions. On the first one, I enjoyed walking through the town to the lake shore and took a boat to Évian-les-Bains, France.
Located in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, it feels like a different country to me, being used to living in the German-speaking region. The architecture is a bit other than in the northern part, a bit more joyful. On the second one, after grabbing lunch at my favorite Chinese restaurant in Vevey, I took a bus to Château de Chillon, next to Montreux. Lausanne is a city which I’ll visit again in the future.
For me, it feels like a dream to be able to live, work and travel in Switzerland. And this is largely possible to mindit.io and their work from anywhere policy. No days off from work, no rigorous plan, no itinerary. Just wake up on a Saturday morning, get my backpack with some essentials, go to the train station, and set off somewhere. mindit.io allowed me to live my dream; I simply took it, and now I am making the best out of it.
