mindit chats with Elena Bondoc: “The level of autonomy is the highest I’ve ever seen.”

What’s something that happened to you that can only happen here? What’s unique about mindit.io?

The level of autonomy is the highest I’ve ever seen. Yes, we all have our roles, but we can make them our own and be supported throughout the journey. I don’t think there are many communities where you can do this, if any. Alas, with great power comes great responsibility, so I’m grateful I’m surrounded by superheroes. By their powers combined, I also grow more and more, each day. And yes, this last one was a Captain Planet reference (‘90s animated series).

How have you grown professionally while on our team?

I come from 15 years of online media/advertising/research, so it has been quite a shift to being first a Business Analyst (BA) role and then a Product Owner (PO). I brought my own way of looking at things and grew into these roles with the help of all my team members. And that’s what’s great about mindit.io. The “you can do it, just try, we’re here to support you” mindset.

What was the moment you knew you’d made the right decision to work here?

Before starting. Even before applying. My long-time friend Roxana Rasoiu told me about the community, the approach, the way of doing things, and I felt this will be the perfect place for me. My decision is validated each time I think of a new way of doing things and I actually get to try it out and not be alone in doing it.

How would you describe an ideal day at work?

Start with coffee. Always! With milk. Always! Did I mention there are always coffee and milk at the office? Well, I do now. So – drink said coffee, ideally chat a bit with colleagues and then switch into focus mode. I try to always have my to do list already set, so I can focus on the right things. Always leave some room for unplanned discussions and smaller items. You know, the ones that never make the top of the list. At the end of an ideal day, I would have closed something for good, figured a way to do something I don’t know how and helped someone with their own things.

In one word, how would you describe your team?

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Always wanted to use this one, and it’s a perfect fit. Yes, I copy/pasted it. But, with research. Don’t be fooled by people who say it doesn’t really mean anything. It expresses excited approbation and/or being great or extraordinary. Sounds perfect to me.

If you could swap jobs with anyone in mindit.io for a day, who would it be and why?

Whilst I’m in awe with other roles in mindit.io, I wouldn’t change mine for the world. Well, that’s not exactly true, as I do change it, and quite frequently. Maybe that’s exactly why?

Which benefits are your favorite and why?

I’ll pick just one, and that’s because it really stands out. Nomad. To be able to visit other offices regularly and spend time there, both for work and just for fun, is one of the benefits I appreciate most.

What advice would you give anyone thinking about joining mindit.io?

If I may rephrase what has surely become a leitmotif, come for the job description, stay because you can make it your own. And the people, I really do think you’ll also stay for the wonderful people.

Check out the fantastic opportunities in our OPEN ROLES, and think about taking the plunge to be part of our team today!

What is the mindit.io value you feel the most and how do you live it?

Team. We grow together, we learn together, we build together. This truly encompasses how things work in mindit.io. And in the end, everything derives from this, as great teams lead to authentic partnerships, innovation, whilst also upholding quality and ethic standards in our work. Each team member adds his own special ingredient to the mix.

If you could do anything else for a living, in an alternative universe, what would that be?

Something creative. I feel I could create something with my hands, be it a drawing, a painting, a sculpture or even furniture (got inspired by a colleague). I never explored this side of me. It’s not too late, but I’ll use the alternative universe excuse and send my wish out there.

What movie, book, or TV show would you recommend? How do you relax and unwind?

For all the fantasy enthusiasts, I recommend my favorite high fantasy series – The Wheel of Time (yes, there are 15 volumes, which I re-read multiple times on account of the  +10k pages of fantasy delight). If books aren’t your poison of choice, you can also give the TV series a try. I also re-watch World War Z from time to time, for The 10th Man Rule, but also for the zombies.

Who would you tag next to be interviewed by us?

Nicolae Groze, tag, you’re it!
