Castelu, a commune nestled in Constanța County, houses a sizable population of Turkish-Roma individuals known as Horahai. Unfortunately, they receive no official recognition or support from either the Turkish or Roma communities. The challenges these families face are substantial; parents struggle with illiteracy and intimidation toward the education system, while adults often resort to begging or collecting recyclables in Constanța due to economic hardship.
This community faces dire circumstances, with children experiencing poor nutrition and hygiene standards. Additionally, access to medical services is limited, and living conditions are often substandard. The situation calls for immediate attention and assistance.
The good news is that donations, including student kits and literacy materials, have arrived at the school in Castelu. The efforts of two dedicated Teach teachers, Cristina Dan and Diana Mirt, are instrumental in fighting social exclusion and providing brighter prospects for children in this vulnerable environment.
These materials aren’t just educational aids; they signify a catalyst for change. They will not only support teaching activities throughout the school year but also foster a conducive learning atmosphere, promote inclusion, and reduce absenteeism among the students.
Adding to this positive development, all 64 children from preparatory classes are anticipated to enjoy a day trip to Fantanita, Constanta County. Outdoor activities are on the agenda, providing a day filled with exploration and learning – an opportunity for joy and growth.
The initiatives and donations bring a ray of optimism, emphasizing the importance of education, inclusion, and the provision of essential resources. It’s an invitation for everyone to support and participate in creating a better world for these deserving children.
